Timeline & Milestones

Track story events alongside production milestones on a chronological timeline.

Series Timeline

The Timeline page provides a vertical, chronological view of your project’s story events and production milestones. It’s designed to give you a bird’s-eye view of what’s happening and when.

Accessing the Timeline

Navigate to Timeline from the sidebar or the Dashboard quick stats.

Timeline Items

Items on the timeline are drawn from two sources:

  1. Tasks with due dates — Any task you’ve created with a due date appears on the timeline
  2. Project milestones — Start and due dates on projects automatically create timeline entries

Event Types

Each timeline item is categorized by type, displayed with a color-coded icon:

Type Color Icon Description
Character Arc Dark person Character arc pivots and turning points
Narrative Beat Orange auto_stories Key story events and plot points
Production Grey event General production tasks
Table Read Grey record_voice_over Table read sessions
Project Start Green rocket_launch A project begins production
Project Due Red flag A project deadline

Filtering

Two filter controls at the top of the timeline let you narrow your view:

  • Type filter — Show only specific event types (e.g., just Character Arcs or just Production items)
  • Importance filter — Toggle between Major and Minor events

Minor events have a “Minor” badge and use a hollow dot indicator instead of a filled one.

Month Grouping

Timeline items are automatically grouped by month. Each month section shows a label and a vertical line connecting events.

Empty States

If no timeline events exist, you’ll see a prompt to create tasks with due dates. Tasks are the primary driver of timeline content — go to the Dashboard or Series Detail to create them.

Adding Timeline Events

Timeline events are created indirectly through:

  1. Tasks — Create a task with a due date from any task list. The task’s taskType field determines its timeline category.
  2. Projects — Set start and due dates on projects. These automatically appear as “Project Start” and “Project Due” events.

There is no separate “create timeline event” action — the timeline reflects your existing project data.
